EDWARD LEAR: Landscapes & Wildlife
An illustrated talk by Jenny Uglow

Author Jenny Uglow discusses her latest book, Mr Lear: A Life of Art and Nonsense, an exploration of the life and work of celebrated poet, artist and musician, Edward Lear.

Lear, who wrote the famous The Owl and the Pussycat and other popular nonsense poetry, was also a celebrated wildlife and landscape artist and lived a fascinating life. He taught Queen Victoria how to draw.
Tennyson and the artist Holman Hunt were among his close friends. He was a jovial, sociable man, but he knew sadness and loneliness too - one reason why his art, and his poems, speak so strongly to us today.
