Imagine a family – one of whom is the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year and another had been a category finalist.
The Kanneh-Masons are a family of extraordinary young musicians. Sheku was overall winner of the 2016 BBC Young Musician competition. His sister, Isata, was a category finalist in the 2014 series (won by Martin James Bartlett) and has performed widely in the UK and with Elton John in Los Angeles. Braimah, violin, is a member of the Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra, and has performed solo and chamber concerts around the UK. They also came second in Britain’s Got Talent 2015.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason is a 17 year old cellist and he won the Young Musician competition to enormous critical acclaim. His playing was described as “electric”. He played the first cello concerto of his favourite composer, Shostakovich.
